Eight Harlem Globetrotter alumni including the first female to play with the internationally acclaimed team have created “Athletes to Authors” who foster children’s lifelong love of books by making reading fun and promoting literacy through interactive and promotional activities.

They are:  authors of children’s books; Naismith Basketball Globetrotters Alumni Hall of Fame Inductees; and extensions of a ninety year, globally recognized and beloved brand.

They include: Tyrone “Hollywood” Brown, Bruce “Sugar Bear” Capers, Kevin “Special K” Daley, Michael “Memphis” Douglas, Sterling “Smooth” Forbes, Derrick “Seven Foot” Polk, Charles “Choo” Smith, and Lynette Woodard.

Athletes to Authors, together with P.R.O. Kids Group, have worked with some of the leading edge companies in the world:  Proctor and Gamble, Kelloggs, Walmart, International Paper, British Petroleum (BP) Oil, Marriott International, Coca Cola, Publix and Chick Fil A. Additionally, we have worked with the following non-profits:  National Education Association (NEA), Tournament of Roses Parade (TOR), National Basketball Retired Players Association, (NBRPA), United Way and the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP).

On December 10, 2015, President Barack Obama signed the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA). The ESSA affirms the principles of Brown v. Board of Education which held, “it is doubtful that any child may reasonably be expected to succeed in life if he is denied the opportunity of an education”.   Athletes to Authors’ programs embrace the concepts of the ESSA through an interactive approach to reading and literacy.

These athletes are highly visible and well sought after motivational speakers.
